There a so many web directories available to submit to that it is difficult to submit to them all. Using a submission service can help. But if you are going to submit your website yourself it is going to take some time, even if you use an automation program. With this problem in mind we have put together a list of Free Web Directories that you should apply to first.
Criteria for inclusion on this list are fast approval time, high page ranks, and good practices. Some directories may have score low on one criteria, but high on another. We try to look at the big picture.
So here are our top 5 Directories
#1 DMOZ

You can't ignore the high Google PageRank and the high amount of traffic it gets. Unfortunately the old saying holds true -- Good things come to those who wait. And you'll be waiting a long time. Competitions is stiff and their standards are high. Many websites are rejected.
Ultimately the prize is worth the effort. You'll benefit from both increased referred traffic and a higher search rank if and when you site is listed. Just look at the graph below. Dmoz’s Alexa Ranking dwarfs the number two and three entries on this list.
Our advice: carefully prepare your submission, add your site, and hope for the best.

A good balance of traffic, PageRank and responsiveness. The sooner you get your site listed the sooner you start enjoying the benefits. The site gets enough visitors that you may get some referral traffic. The PageRank is mediocre compared to other sites in this list, but it gets a lot of traffic and it lists your site in just a few days.
#3 Ezilon

You can expedite the review process if you are willing to pay a fee. It is a well constructed directory with good quality listings. You will get a quality link if you are accepted here. It focuses primarily on the European Union, but there is also a world wide section to this directory.
#4 JoeAnt

It’s not clear exactly how long it generally takes to get listed on JoeAnt. The directory is run by volunteer editors. Submitting a site usually costs $39.95 but if you sign up as an editor you can submit one for free. Once submitted your site will be reviewed and rated by the JoeAnt editors. If it gets good marks it will have a better placement within the directory.
On the down side the directory is many levels deep. So you may end up with a link that is far removed from the front page, and therefore, of lower value for your search rank.
#4 Search Sight

Search Site lists your site almost instantly and has a good Google PageRank. It also creates a thumbnail of your website to accompany your listing. This is particularly helpful if your website has an attractive design that will help it standout.
You must register in order to submit a site. Once you have done so you’ll have some nice tools to manage the description, title and other aspects of your listing.
Conclusion
